the overview!

DIsitribution Network (8 Switching Stations)

The progress of the 15 kV distribution network in Kigali City marks a notable improvement in electrical infrastructure, boosting the dependability and effectiveness of power distribution. This initiative includes eight strategically positioned switching stations and integrates cutting-edge GIS switchgear substations with SCADA technology for enhanced monitoring and control.

Key Tasks Completed:

  • Full Implementation Design:Comprehensive design plans were developed, covering all aspects of the electrical and civil engineering components to ensure optimal functionality and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Equipment Procurement and Manufacturing Oversight: The procurement and manufacturing processes of essential equipment were closely monitored to guarantee on-time delivery and adherence to technical specifications. This involved working closely with suppliers to synchronize schedules and uphold quality standards.
  • Execution of Civil Works: The efficient completion of all civil works was necessary for the construction of switching stations, which included laying strong and durable foundations to uphold the structural integrity of the stations. Additionally, modern control buildings were built with the essential facilities for operation and maintenance.
  • Installation of GIS Switchgears:The installation of state-of-the-art GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) systems was completed, enhancing safety and reliability while optimizing space requirements for the substations.

  • SCADA System Installation:An advanced system for Control, Command, Protection, and SCADA was put in place to enable the real-time monitoring and management of the distribution network, leading to improved operational efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Participation in Testing and Commissioning:Active involvement in the testing and commissioning phases ensured that all systems were thoroughly validated for performance and safety before their operational launch.

Conclusion

The 15 kV distribution network in Kigali City has been completed to meet current energy needs and prepare the city for future growth and sustainability. By prioritizing the enhancement of electrical infrastructure, this project demonstrates a dedication to using advanced technology to enhance service delivery and reliability for the residents of the city.
